 | | Patty, David and Alyssa | I am beginning my third year at Barton Open School, but this is my 31st year teaching in the
District. How
fast the years have gone by. I began my teaching career by tutoring for 5 years in both
reading and math. The bulk of my teaching career was at North Star
Primary School. With the impending closing of that school I began the
search for a new school. How fortunate I was to land at Barton.
I
have a strong commitment to the public school system and in particular
the Minneapolis Public Schools. I am a life long resident of
Minneapolis, living in the Diamond Lake neighborhood. My two children are Minneapolis Public School graduates, both attending South High
School. Presently my daughter, Alyssa, lives and works in Washington D. C.
My son, David, lives and works in Minneapolis. The children in my room
hear a lot about my children and my husband, Doug. I feel it is
critical to have an honest and authentic relationship with the children
I spend so much time with each day.
I LOVE my job. I feel lucky to come to a job every morning that excites and stimulates me. It is my belief that I am creating
lifelong learners. I, too, am a lifelong learner. I spend lots of time
during the school year reading professional journals and books, In the
summer months I usually take a week long Literacy course at Hamline
University. In addition I teach and attend several workshops and seminars, ususally dealing with math and science. For relaxation I like to travel, garden, sew and read.
