picnic, we’ll be dividing trash just like the students will do with Barton’s

All School Family Potluck Picnic 7/8/2009 8:35 PM Our all school Family Potluck is scheduled for Thursday, August 27 at Beard's Plaisance, from 5-7:30 PM following the Meet Your Teacher session from 3-4 PM held at school.
The picnic event is an opportunity for parents to connect with other families that will be in the same classrooms, and for your kids to renew their friendships before school begins.

Lake Day Permission 5/30/2009 9:10 AM Be sure to sign and return the Lake Day permission form by Thursday, June 4 for all students in grades 1-8. Lake Day will be held at Lake Harriet bandshell, awards program starting at 10:00.
Council Endorsement Ballots 5/22/2009 1:10 PM Please return completed endorsement ballots by May 28 to support next year’s slate of parent council representatives. Extra copies of the endorsement ballot and candidate statements are available in the office or online if you did not receive one.
Bulldog Playoff Baseball & Softball 5/17/2009 11:05 AM The boys' baseball team finished a very successful regular season (6-1), and ended their season Friday in a loss to Seward. Joint Lyndale-Ramsey-Barton Proposal for Change 5/12/2009 10:45 PM The Barton, Lyndale and Ramsey school
communities, including parents, teachers and administration, have come together to develop a joint proposal to address the needs of our
schools, the community in which we are located and the school district as a
whole. It was presented to the School Board on May 12th. The leadership from these three schools are communicating with the District regarding this proposal.

Be Well - Do Good - Go Green! 4/29/2009 4:20 PM Barton's fourth and FINAL Bike/Walk-to-School Day is THIS FRIDAY, May 1st.Students who walk or bike to school will be met by greeters handing out cool tokens and a round of applause. Look for Walk Leaders wearing a bright yellow sash and a blinking light - and join in! See the attached flyer for the route maps, leader names, and route start times.

Area C Parent Advisory Council Meeting 4/14/2009 4:20 PM Please plan to attend the next Area C Parent Advisory Council Meeting on Thursday, April 23rd from 6:30 - 8:30 at Washburn High School. The agenda includes a presentation by MPS administration about "Changing School Options" with emphasis on the decision making process and the guiding principles of MPS in making these changes. Children in Change Group Offered 4/13/2009 7:55 AM Barton will be offering a Children In Change group for six weeks this spring. The program is an educational and support group designed to help young people better understand their feelings surrounding recent, significant changes in their lives. Barton’s group will be for 2nd - 4th graders and will focus on children experiencing the divorce/separation of their parents. . .

From the Leadership Council . . . 3/31/2009 2:15 PM Minneapolis Public Schools administration has presented their Changing School Options recommendations for school changes in 2010. As part of this plan, it is recommended that attendance boundaries may change, but Barton will retain its Open magnet program. There will be town hall meetings during May and comments are being accepted online until May 22. A School Board vote on the plan is scheduled for May 26. Please go to the Changing School Options page on the Minneapolis Public Schools site for all the details. An Editorial opinion from Superintendent Green about Changing School Options, race and diversity at the Minneapolis Public Schools is also available on the MPS web site.
Parent members of the Leadership Council will continue to be available for informal conversation among Barton parents regarding the Changing School Options plans. Please join us between 7:30 and 8:30 AM on Wednesday mornings at Java Jack's (818 W. 46th Street) if you are wanting more information or would like to connect with other concerned parents.

A little book of HOPE . . , 3/24/2009 10:05 PM HOPE is a new book written and illustrated by Cindy Smedberg, director of Barton's Community Education program. Written in a coffee shop, Cindy was inspired as she watched people around her share a smile, hold open a door for someone, wave to a child or ride their bike. HOPE reminds us to wallow in the old fashioned ways people have survived hard times, by reaching out and sharing love and joy in community . . .

Barton's 3rd Walk/Bike to School Day 3/18/2009 7:25 AM is THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 20TH.Students who walk or bike to school will be met at the school’s four corners by greeters handing out cool tokens and a round of applause. Our final walk/bike for this school year is scheduled for May 1st, but watch the Bugle for information on the ALL SCHOOL MILEAGE PROGRAM – a follow-up to PALA – and a way to encourage you to continue walking, biking, and keeping active at school and at home each and every day.

Family Roller Skating Thursday 2/4/2009 11:00 AM Please join the Barton School community for an evening of roller skating fun at the Roller Garden in St. Louis Park Thursday, February 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
The Roller Garden is located one block west of Highway 100 (exiting on the Minnetonka Blvd. exit) next to the Marathon Gas station. (map)
Admission is $4.50, which includes free roller skate rental (in-line skate rental is $3.00 additional).
