I have been teaching in Minneapolis at Barton Open School since 1991.  I taught Kindergarten through 2nd grades in the classroom for 8 years, and currently work as a reading specialist. I have a Masters in Experiential Education, and wrote my masters paper on multi-age classrooms.  I earned a Reading License from the University of Minnesota in 2004.

Reading is a very complicated thing!  There are many skills, processes and abilities which need to come together in order to read.  There are many different experts, theories, models, curricula, and methods, all of which claim to be right.  My view is that most have great things to offer, but the human brain is a complicated thing and each child is unique with unique strengths and struggles.  What works for one, or even many will not work for each individual.  My goal is to help reading feel easier to students who struggle with the way reading has been taught so far.  This means learning about each student and how each individual student learns.

For general information for parents of beginning and struggling readers, see my reading website.
